Your assignment is to describe how the digestive system works by following a hamburger from a plate to the toilet. The hamburger is made of beef with all the good toppings including tomatoes, lettuce and cheese therefore all food groups are present. Your final project needs to include the following:
Pancreatic juices - sodium bicarbonate, trypsin, pancreatic amylase, pancreatic lipase
small intestine - erepsin, disaccharidase, nucleotidase, peptidase, lipase
Upon completion of this project, you should have a good understanding of the digestive system. Have fun and BE CREATIVE!

- A visualization of the digestive system.
- All parts labeled with the function: salivary glands, pharynx, oral cavity, esophagus, liver, stomach, pancreas, appendix, anus, rectum, large intestine, small intestine, gall bladder. Know the order in which food takes through the digestive system.
- Describe chemical and physical digestion and give examples of where it occurs.
- Use the terms, ingestion, digestion, absorption, bolus, peristalsis, chime, villi, bile, emulsification.
- Show all valves and sphincters: cardiac, pyloric, epiglottis, anal, ilieocecal.
- pH of stomach and intestine.
- Voluntary vs. involuntary digestion.
- Where carbohydrates, lipids and proteins begin digestion and where they end digestion. Also include what they become.
- Enzymes: Mouth - amylase
